What is some good guidance you have received in your life? Maybe it was when you were first married or starting a business or stepping out into a new venture. Did you find a good guide? Good Guides make a difference for a lot of reasons.
Guidance can make a difference when taking risks or exploring new possibilities.
Some of my early memories of having good guides in my life, of course, start with my parents who taught me about hard work, good morals, clear ethics, and beliefs in God. Later on, I had teachers and a coach in high school who helped me achieve new possibilities as a softball pitcher. I had people who walked alongside me in my career as a young teacher who cared about my progress as well. There were guides who supported my new marriage, starting a family, returning to school, and eventually guides who were entrepreneurs to help me begin my own business.
See what I mean?
Some guides are a brief interaction that gives you the courage to take new risks, and other guides stay for a longer period, traveling alongside you until you reach your destination. But they’re all around us.
What I have found is Good Guides show up unexpectedly but oftentimes right when we need them most. They are ahead of you and willing to help you forge a new way. You may be starting a new relationship or a new business or you’re at a crossroads not sure where to go. But when you look for the guides in your life and anticipate someone coming along, you’ll be surprised at the possibilities. People will appear who know the way and can shine a light to help you take the next steps.
This is why I am enjoying my new podcast series about Good Guides. Because everybody has a story where a guide came along at just the right time. And I love hearing the many examples! As I listen to people sharing how guides helped them at the right time, themes have emerged about what makes a Good Guide.
Good Guides listen well, help you slow down to evaluate and ask important questions, and believe in your potential.
Good Guides support you in finding YOUR clarity, not their clarity because they believe in your capacity for inner wisdom. They know that each person holds their inner wisdom and helps you access it. So that when you make the decisions that you need to make, you make them from your own clarity.
I can’t wait for you to hear these conversations. I believe you’ll enjoy them as much as I do. Listen to all my podcasts on my podcast page: heatherpenny.com/podcast or on any major podcast platform. Most importantly, these conversations are inspiring me to look around and see who is in a critical moment so I might be able to serve as a Good Guide and pay it forward.
As usual, cheering you on!
